On August 15, 2023, the validity of e-visas for foreigners went from 30 days with a single-entry to 90 days with single-entry or multiple entries.
The eligibility for the online application went from 80 countries to all nationalities and territories. This major change is expected to make it easier for people all over the world to explore Vietnam, to align with global practices and maintain the country as a strong competitive tourist destination. However, this duration extension is subject to conditions prescribed by the law.

Documentation requirements for e-visa Vietnam
In order to facilitate tourists’ stay while increasing their welfare and financial accountability, and the safety of the country, additional documents are required:
- Proof of accommodation during the entire stay.
- Valid travel insurance for the entire duration.
Other basic information must be given when applying for the e-visa, such as the date of entry, length of stay, or intended port of entry and departure.
List of international checkpoints allowing foreigners to enter and exit by e-visas
Checkpoints allowing the entry and exit for e-visa tourists include 42 ports of entry instead of 38, among which, 13 airports, 16 land ports and 13 seaports, which are listed in Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP, on the application of granting electronic visas to citizens of countries and territories.
Compliance and Application process of the Vietnam Visa
The non-compliance with new regulations may result in denial of entry into the country. Accordingly, the online application form must be filed accurately to avoid any delays or rejection.
Update on Visa Exemption Policy
Effective from August 15, 2023, some citizens will be exempted from visa requirements for Vietnam for 45 days instead of 15 days, allowing them a much longer visa-free stay regardless of passport type or purpose of entry. This exemption applies to 13 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Russia, Belarus, France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and United Kingdom.
